We are pleased to announce the well-deserved promotion of Dan Kemp to Director of the Strategic Development & International Operations (SD&IO) Division at JRC. In his new role, Dan will lead technology and R&D initiatives, aligning them with JRC’s strategic priorities. He will also oversee contract management within the division, leveraging his exceptional expertise to navigate complex contractual, organizational, and technical challenges.
Dan’s career is marked by extensive experience and notable accomplishments. With a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale College, Dan’s academic achievements laid the foundation for an impressive career. He served as a U.S. Navy Submarine Officer aboard the USS Florida and later became a nuclear engineering instructor at the Trident Training Facility in Kings Bay, GA.
Since joining JRC in 2016 as a radiation hardening subject matter expert, Dan has shown tremendous leadership and technical acumen. He was promoted to Manager of the Systems Engineering Section in 2019, and by 2021, expanded his responsibilities to lead the Cyber Section. His dedication to developing smart solutions has helped navigate challenging budget periods and lead business development efforts, proposals, and multiple R&D projects.
When asked what he's found most enjoyable about his career at JRC, Dan shared, “What I find most enjoyable at JRC is being given the opportunity to develop smart solutions for challenging problems. I’m grateful to be part of a team dedicated to the customer’s mission, and it’s exciting to help our organization grow and work on new technology development areas.”
Dan’s impact extends beyond his technical and managerial contributions; he is deeply committed to fostering growth within the JRC team and supporting colleagues in their professional endeavors. “I enjoy applying my critical thinking skills to support our employees and help JRC branch into new areas of technology. This approach benefits not only our employee base but also creates new opportunities for growth,” Dan shared.
Outside of work, Dan and his wife, Erica, along with their 1-year-old daughter, embrace a homesteading lifestyle in Northeast Alabama. Their garden and orchard are their favorite places to spend time, especially in the spring, summer, and fall. The family enjoys raising chickens, turkeys, and an occasional pig. They share their home with two dogs, cats, and a Tennessee Walker mare. Dan also enjoys spending his weekends working on his property, running his smoker, or experimenting with new culinary recipes.
